Competition rules

 

1. The four Juries of the Competition (separately for PIANO, VIOLIN, CELLO and SINGING nominations) are fixed by the Competition Committee. The Juries will adjudicate all Competition performances and decide who will be awarded the main and special prizes. The Juries consist of eminent musicians from Ukraine and abroad.

2. The Jury adjudicates in accordance with the Rules of the Jury established by the Competition Committee.

3. All Competition performances are open to the public.

4. The order of performances in each nomination is determined by the drawing of lots conducted on 27 November 2007 and is preserved in all rounds of the Competition.

5. The duration of Competitors’ performances cannot exceed the allowed timing.

6. In the PIANO, VIOLIN and CELLO nominations no more than 12 Competitors from the First Round shall be selected by the Jury to proceed to the Second Round in each of those nominations. In the Singing nomination no more than 12 male and 12 female singers will be selected to the Second Round.

7. In the PIANO, VIOLIN and CELLO nominations no more than 5 Competitors from the Second Round shall be selected by the Jury to proceed to the Final Round in each of those nominations. In the Singing nomination no more than 5 male and 5 female singers will be selected to the Final Round.

8. The winners of the special prizes For the best performance of a Mykola Lysenko piece will be determined at the close of the First Round for the VIOLIN and CELLO nominations and at the close of the Second Round for PIANO and SINGING nominations.

9. The winners of the special prizes To the best Competition accompanist will be determined at the close of the Second Round in all nominations except PIANO nomination.

10. Competitors not selected to proceed to the Final Round will receive Honorary Semi-Finalists’ Diplomas.

11. The decision of the Jury in all rounds of the Competition shall be final and no appeal will be permitted.

12. The Competition will provide official accompanists free of charge to the Competitors (if required) for the purposes of rehearsals and performances in the First and Second Rounds of the Competition. Each Competitor will be entitled to one rehearsal with their official accompanist before the First Round performance and to two rehearsals before the Second Round performance of 45 minutes duration each.

13. All Competition Laureates must attend the Awards Ceremony and also perform in the Laureates’ Gala Concert if required. Prizewinners will not receive a fee for their performance at the Laureates’ Gala Concert.

14. By participating in the Competition, the Competitor grants permission to be electronically recorded, filmed or taped (“the Recording”) for distribution by live, tape-delayed or future transmission in all media present or future, and that he/she waives any claim whatsoever to any financial reward arising from the distribution or use in any way of such Recordings.

15. In any question concerning rules or procedures in the Competition and their translations, the Ukrainian language text of the same shall preside.
